MANSFIELD, OH- As one of their final requirements for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge, the scouts and leaders, and home staff of Boy Scout Troop 123  spent their weekend cleaning and painting the lower half of the pavilion at Liberty Park in Mansfield.

Troop 123 is a troop of scouts with disabilities and is chartered by Newhope. Troop members range in age from 13 to early 80's.

The scouts are from all over Richland County so they chose this location as a central point to best benefit the community. They also noticed this pavilion was frequently used and wanted to improve it for everyone.

When their project is finished, the scouts and leaders will create a slide show including pictures of what they have accomplished and some pictures and historical information from when the park was built. The slide show is also a requirement of the merit badge; the scouts must devote time promoting a local landmark.

The troop worked with Mark Abrams from City Parks, Lisa Jackson from Friends of Liberty Park, and Bryan Gladden from Downtown Mansfield to complete this project.
